Hungry? A new Lebanese fast food restaurant has you covered. Called Shawarma District, the new arrival is located at 818 18th St. NW near the Farragut West Metro.
With just a few seats, this is mostly a take-out spot. The line moves fast, though, as most ingredients are already ready to go. Build-your-own bowls consist of rice, proteins like kafta and shawarma (or falafel and cauliflower, if you prefer), and toppings, from pickled turnips to tzatziki. Or do a wrap, which drops the rice and replaces the bowl with a warm pita.
All your favorite Mediterranean appetizers are here, too, like hummus, labneh and baba gannoush.
Desserts like baklava and maamoul (a flour and date bar), and drinks like the yogurt-based ayran, round out the concise menu.
With a 4.5-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp so far, the new addition seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Shannon L., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 3, wrote, "Great lunch spot. It kind of reminds me of Cava but with better falafel. They have a vermicelli rice combo, which to me tastes so much better than the regular rice you'd usually get. The place itself is small; it's definitely a place you order and go back and eat at your office or perhaps a nearby park."
Yelper Nadine A. added, “Delicious shawarma, best I've ever had, honestly. I will definitely be going back all the time. I like how it was super-fast and easy to order. It's one of those places where you move down the line and pick what you want.”
Head on over to check it out: Shawarma District is open from 10:30 a.m.–4 p.m. daily.
